Trap Filtration for Water Treatment Systems

Filters are used to trap particles released by the media in sand filters or softeners or carbon beds. So-called trap filters protect downstream processes from contamination by the released particles. Some water treatment steps use media in the form of large particles. The media can be sand (multi-media filter), powder (activated carbon) or resin (softening or deionization). All of these media can release small particles that could contaminate downstream treatment processes. Filters are used to trap the particles and prevent that contamination.

Trap Filtration

As with system prefiltration processes, depth filtration is most often used for this function. Sand particles, carbon fines and material from fractured resin beads can usually be removed using filters rated at 1 micron or higher. For systems requiring ultra-high water purity, sub-micron rated filters may be appropriate.
